Power States - Kerala Control room to monitor HT, EHT power use Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 4 The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will set up a control room to monitor power consumption by high-tension and extra high-tension industrial units, according to the Minister for Electricity, Mr A.K. Balan. The Minister, while replying to questions in the State Assembly on Thursday, said that the control room, equipped with automated meter reading devices, would record the power consumption by the units every 15 minutes. He said that 11 anti-power theft squads were already functioning in the State and two more squads would be formed in Malappuram and Thiruvalla. The board had collected Rs 45.86 crore as fine in power theft cases since this Government assumed office, he added. The board will install separate meters at the electrical sections and transformers to prevent power loss. As of now, there are 7.13 lakh faulty meters in the State and the board is planning to buy eight lakh liquid crystal display meters. The Minister said that the Government was unable to lift the power cut and load-shedding since the water level in the hydel reservoirs had not risen to the desired level. Also, the Centre had not restored the State’s share of power from the Central pool. At present, the board was drawing 150 megawatts from the NTPC station at Kayamkulam and it was yet to get the benefit of the fall in naphtha prices, he noted. Mr Balan informed the members that the board had taken up feasibility studies of six new proposed hydel power projects in the State. These projects were envisaged to generate a total of 448 megawatts, he said and added that the detailed project reports of the Pooyamkutty and the Pambar had been completed.
