Our Bureau

Chennai, Dec. 4 Marg Ltd, a Chennai-based company engaged in infrastructure development, has won the contract for building and operating an airport at Bijapur, Karnataka.

The company today announced that the ground breaking ceremony for the project would be on December 7, in the presence of the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa.

The airport is to come up on a 727-acre land at Burnapur village near Bijapur. Under a public-private partnership agreement, Marg will design, develop and operate the airport for thirty years. The agreement provides for extending the period further.

Mr G.R.K. Reddy, Chairman, Marg, told Business Line that the details of the cost of the project and the timelines for execution were being worked out. A 4,000 MW ultra mega power project is expected to come up near Bijapur. Marg believes that the traffic from the project, tourism and students would be sufficient to make the project viable.
