Direct selling industry bullish on growth

New Delhi, Dec. 4 The Indian direct selling industry is growing at a rate of 13 per cent and has posted a turnover of Rs 2,851 crore for the year 2007-08, according to the Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA), the premiere body governing 16 of the largest direct selling companies in the country.

The direct selling industry, whose annual revenues are expected to double by 2012, is set to grow by 100 per cent in the next four years.

“With a distributor base of more than 1.6 million, the industry has been consistently generating employment opportunities. IDSA companies paid over Rs 111 crore in direct taxes and Rs 168 crore as indirect taxes to the Indian Government, a contribution of Rs 279 crore during the year to the exchequer,” said Mr David Stanley, Chairman, Indian Direct Selling Association, and CEO, AMC Cookware.
