Madurai, Dec. 4

Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industries has made an appeal to the Union Railways Minister to introduce a new train between Kanyakumari and Varanasi via Rameswaram. In a letter addressed to the Union Railways Minister, Mr Lalu Prasad, the chamber secretary, Mr P.T.K.A. Balasubramanian, said with the conversion of the line between Rameswaram and Madurai into broad gauge, the long pending request to provide a linkage between Kanyakumari and Varanasi could be taken up via Ra meswaram. This would help to fulfil the wishes of pilgrims in accordance with the prevailing customs and tradition of taking a holy dip at the Ganga in Varanasi where three rivers merge and in Rameswaram and pray at Kanyakumari.
