Events States - Tamil Nadu ‘SPEED 2008, a road map to an inclusive economy’ Our Correspondent Madurai, Dec. 4 The SPEED 2008 conference, being organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Madurai Zone, on December 5 and 6, is a road map to an inclusive economy, according to Mr T. Kannan, Chairman of the conference and Managing Director, Thiagarajar Mills Ltd. The meet would highlight the advantages of the southern districts to consider investments in the manufacturing & IT/ ITeS sectors as well as focus on infrastructure, development of skills, tourism and healthcare sectors for the promotion of industries, Mr Kannan told Business Line. Coinciding with the conference, Connect Madurai 2008 is also organised to highlight the IT & ITeS sectoral development possibilities. The southern districts offer a cost advantage of 15-20 per cent and have come to the fore as new growth centres with diverse skills and adaptability to learn with inherent entrepreneurial skills. They offer cost competitive investment opportunities in diverse areas such as auto components, education, food processing & sea foods, health care, IT, printing, rubber, power, shipping, logistics and textiles, he said. Mr F.M. Farooqui, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries, will inaugurate the conference and Mr P.W.C.Davidar, Secretary (IT), will deliver a special address. Mr Thangam Thennarasu, Minister for School Education, will deliver the valedictory address, Mr Kannan added.
