Eco clearance for 297 State projects

The Ministry of Environment and Forests has given environmental clearance to 297 projects in Mahrashtra in terms of environmental impact and protection. Of the 301 projects that were submitted for clearance, the highest number were in the construction industry, 71 in industrial sector and 58 projects in the area of mining and eight projects were related to river valley and thermal power plans.

The Government also sanctioned setting up of sewage treatment plants at a cost of Rs 727.65 crore. The amount also includes assistance from Japan Bank for international Cooperation.

A statement issued by the Ministry said that under the Centrally-sponsored scheme of National River Conservation Plan, the Government sanctioned various pollution abatement strategies including interception and diversion of sewage, low-cost sanitation work and river front development. The river conservation plan covers 164 towns along the polluted streches of 35 rivers spread over 20 states.
