A traditional fisherman at work at Parambikulam dam reservoir in Palakkad district. The country has a diverse area for fish production. With the marine jurisdictional area alone spanning 2.02 million sq km and the rivers, estuaries and reservoirs making up another 4 million hectares, total fish production stands at 6.5 million tonnes.
