Viruses Spam lures on the rise Coimbatore, Dec. 5 Spam lures seem to be on the rise. The latest lure detected by Websense Security Labs was one that attempted to capitalise on the natural disasters in the State of Santa Catarina in Brazil. While protecting its customers, Websense has cautioned users about this malicious code. The Security Lab experts said the hackers used e-mail messages that looked like a news alert about the disaster in Santa Catarina. `To make it appear genuine, the message included a legitimate telephone number for donations, and a link that appeared to provide a video of the disaster.' When users clicked the link, they were led to a malicious executable, Trojan downloader `Video_SC_desastre.exe'. `This execution file connects to various sites and in the process, password stealing Trojans are downloaded to the compromised machine. While the files are hosted in the form of JPG images, they are actually malicious executables,' the experts said and pointed out that one Trojan - msnmgr.exe, was a password stealing application spoofing MSN Live Messenger. - Our Bureau
