Tata Motors counsel’s arguments

Kolkata, Dec. 5

Counsel for Tata Motors Ltd (TML) resumed arguments on Friday on why the provisions of the Right to Information Act 2005 cannot be accepted. The company has filed a writ petition in Calcutta High Court challenging the Vires of the Act. Tata Motors prayed for an order of injunction against the State Information Commissioner from disclosing the contents of the memorandum of agreement dated March 9, 2007, between Tata Motors, State and WBIDC to the public. In the petition, a further injunction was prayed for to stop the proceedings pending before the CIC in respect of publicising the contents of the agreement under the R.I. Act 2005. Counsel for Tata Motors argued before Mr Justice Dipankar Dutta that the application before CIC asking for disclosure of contents of the agreement was a strange one since the project was no longer in existence.
