The contributionof the fisheries sector to the GDP has steadily increased from 0.7 per cent in the 1980s to 1.5 per cent in 2000 as a result of introducing a budget for mega fisheries sector during the Five-Year Plans. Investment in fisheries remains stagnant at 0.3 per cent of the total Plan outlay.
