Tea Darmona estate fetches all-time high price P.S. Sundar Coonoor, Dec 8 Darmona Estate created a record at Sale No 49 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) on Friday when its BOPF grade, auctioned by J Thomas and Co, fetched Rs 131 a kg and BOP Rs 128. “These are all-time high prices. No grade of CTC tea from any bought-leaf factory has ever received this price in CTTA auctions. In all, six of our marks remained in Rs 100 price-band — apart from the above, our RD grade got Rs 123, PD Rs 115, BP Rs 110 and BOPL Rs 100,” Mr Dinesh Raju, Managing Partner, Darmona Estate and Tea Industry, told Business Line. Homedale fetches Rs 111Among CTC teas from other bought-leaf factories, Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, fetched Rs 111 a kg. Vigneshwar Estate got Rs 109, Hittakkal Estate Rs 106, Professor Rs 104, Kotagiri Estate Rs 102, Green View Estate and Kannavarai Rs 100 each. Among orthodox teas from corporate sector, Corsley got Rs 121, Curzon Rs 120, Tiger Hill Rs 116, Glendale Rs 111, Prammas Rs 109, Chamraj Rs 105, Quinshola and Parkside Rs 104 each and Kodanaad Rs 102. Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging from Rs 48 to 50 a kg for plain leaf grades and Rs 80 to 90 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged Rs 48 to 52 a kg for plain dust grades and Rs 90 to 107 for brighter liquoring sorts. Prices generally dropped by Rs 2 a kg, despite the offer of 13.99 lakh kgs being the 4-week low as demand was weak for plainer grades. More Stories on : Tea
