TN cold storage units’ ‘power’ plea

Madurai, Dec. 8

The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has requested for exemption to cold storage facilities of essential agricultural products from load shedding, as in the case of rice mills. Making an appeal to the Chief Minister, the association said at present, no such exemption was provided and the wastages of the commodities contributed to inflation. Traders in the State bought huge quantities of commodities from other States for the whole one year and stored them in cold storages to ensure that they did not get split. —
