Adanis launch institute for infrastructure management

In the first academic year (2009-10), AIIM would admit 40 to 50 students and increase the number of seats to 150 in the next three years. The admission would be made on GMAT/CAT score of the test taken after January 1, 2006.

Ahmedabad, Dec 9 The Adani Group today announced the launch of Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management (AIIM) with a one-year, full-time, residential course aimed at providing skilled manpower in a sector that is seen to attract investments of $150 billion in the next five years.

The Planning Commission has estimated that India needs an aggregate investment of more than $500 billion over the Eleventh Plan period ending March 2012.

These large investments are required in order to upgrade and expand the infrastructure for sustaining the targeted average GDP growth rate of nine per cent per annum.

Announcing the launch of Post-Graduate Programme in Infrastructure Management (PGPIM) at a press conference here, the AIIM Director, Dr Bakul H. Dholakia, said the new institute would attempt to bridge the gap between general management courses being offered currently by more than 1,500 business management schools across India, and the emerging specific needs of the industry involved in a focussed infrastructure development and its management.

Value addition

This course would represent an ‘ideal blend’ of academics and experienced executives of industry, who would design the programme to make it relevant and contemporary enough to suit their requirement.

Asked about any collaboration, he said the institute would be adding value through such efforts in the near future.

Besides the other companies willing to share their experience in class rooms, he said, the Adani Group, itself diversifying into different streams of infrastructure development, would provide hands-on experience on its various projects to the course participants.

In the first academic year (2009-10), AIIM would admit 40 to 50 students and increase the number of seats to 150 in the next three years.

The admission would be made on GMAT/CAT score of the test taken after January 1, 2006.

Graduates in any discipline with a minimum of five years’ work experience, and aged above 25 years, would be admitted after an interview.

Online applications for this year’s course have already begun, said Dr Dholakia, a former Director of IIM (A).

Course Inauguration

The programme will be inaugurated on September 3, 2009, and the fees for the one-year course would be Rs 10 lakh, excluding about Rs 2.25 lakh for food and study visits.

Being set up by the Adani Education and Research Foundation (AERF), AIIM would also shortly endeavour at providing quality education in specific fields such as transportation, energy and real estate and SEZ development.

Also, a series of short-duration courses would be introduced to cater to the needs of various fields of infrastructure development.
