Firm trend at Kochi tea sale

As demand firmed up from domestic blenders and interstate operators, dust tea prices moved up at the Kochi tea auction. There was a fair amount of support from exporters as well. At the leaf tea auction, it was mainly the steady stream of export enquiries and firm demand from exporters which bolstered prices. Interstate buyers were also active at the leaf tea sale. A small decline in leaf arrivals also helped to sustain price trends.

Dust & Leaf Sale

There was 12 lakh kg of dust tea on offer where CTC dust varieties remained firm to dearer. Best liquoring CTC varieties moved up significantly. Bolder CTC grades remained firm. Orthodox high grown varieties and medium orthodox grades remained firm to dearer. Best CTC grades fetched Rs 95-120, medium CTC was at Rs 75-90 and below medium quoted Rs 56-65. High grown BOPD ranged at Rs 75-101, medium BOPD was at Rs 48-50 while secondaries fetched Rs 46-47.

There was 3.61 lakh kg of leaf tea on offer which elicited good general demand. Medium orthodox, primary broken and whole leaf grades remained steady to irregularly dearer. Prices of high grown orthodox whole leaf grades remained easier, while fannings were barely steady with less demand. Primary high grown broken varieties remained steady to dearer as the auction progressed. CTC smaller broken and fannings were dearer. Best Nilgiri leaf grades fetched Rs 69-80, medium orthodox quoted Rs 58-65 and plain orthodox was at Rs 52-55. Best CTC leaf ranged at Rs 63-70 while medium CTC leaf fetched Rs 57-60.

Top Prices

In the dust segment, Pasuparai SFD fetched the top price at Rs 120 followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 115, Kallayar SFD at Rs 113 and Chinnar SFD at Rs 110. In the leaf category, Havukal FOP fetched the top price at Rs 159 followed by Glendale OP at Rs 150, Chamraj FOP at Rs 134 and Craigmore TGFOP at Rs 131.
