Good demand for CTC dust teas at N. India auctions

Last week, selected liquoring CTC leaf teas maintaining quality continued to meet with good demand and sold well, while medium and plainer categories as well as teas showing a decline in quality were irregularly lower, according to tea auctioneers.

Dust teas saw strong demand with better sorts firm to dearer while the remainder were irregular around last.

The major blenders continued to operate actively with good support from other packeteers.

There were good inquiries from Western Indian dealers for liquoring sorts while other internal sections operated. Export buyers operated primarily for larger brokens and liquoring fannings.

Improved Darjeeling whole leaf and brokens sold around last. Remainder were lower.

Fannings were an easier trend. Packeteers operated actively along with some local interest.

Orthodox sale met with only a fair demand with whole leaf and larger brokens easing in value following decline in quality. Smaller brokens and fannings were irregularly lower.

West Asian shippers were the mainstay of the market. North India operated actively on bolder whole leaf. Good support from HUL on the fannings.

CROP

The October crop for North India, it is estimated, was 102.2 mkg, registering an increase of 6.7 mkg over the same month of the previous year. The all India October crop at 125.8 mkg, up by 12.5 mkg. The year to date North India crop now stands at 631.7 mkg, an increase of 8 mkg while the all India crop at 832.5 mkg is ahead by 29.9 mkg over the previous year.

INTERNATIONAL

The Mombasa market saw strong demand at dearer rates. Egyptian Packers lent very strong support with more activity from Pakistan Packers, Sudan, Bazaar, Kazakhstan, Yemen, and other West Asian countries while the UK was selective.

Afghanistan showed strong interest with maintained enquiry from the Egyptian Government Sector. Russia was quiet. Somalia showed more activity at dearer rates.

The Colombo auction saw the low growns meeting with good demand at irregularly dearer rates while ex-estates offerings once again eased following decline in quality of offerings.

The CIS operated on a fair cross section of the teas whilst Turkey, Iran and Dubai too were more active last week.
