MedTree plans birth hospitals with ‘5-star’ care

Our Bureau

Kochi, Dec. 15 MedTree Healthcare Pvt Ltd, a Kochi-based health care company, has proposed to invest Rs 100 crore to set up birth centres across the State.

The company, promoted by a team of NRI doctors and businessmen, is set to launch its first hospital near Cochin International Airport by 2010.

Mr Mohammed Soopy, Chairman of MedTree Healthcare, said that the concept of a birth hospital would be new in the State. It would provide a five-star specialised maternity care hospital to cater to the needs of expectant mothers and the newborn.

Birth Hospital will bring to Kerala mothers the best birthing facilities under one roof in line with global standards by combining personalised care with highly specialised medical facilities, he said.

All-in-one facility

Dr M.A. Babu, Managing Director, said that in line with international practices, Birth Hospital will have the facility of private birthing suites – an all-in-one labour-delivery-recovery room – which will be fully equipped with all medical facilities required for a normal delivery. It would also provide specialised IVF treatment.

This will help do away with the inconvenience caused to the mother by shifting her from the labour room to the delivery room to the recovery room, he said.

The facility will offer the best of doctors, medical technology, pre- and post-natal care and counselling health programmes for mothers.

Centres across State

MedTree is planning to set up at least 10 birth centres across the State through 100 per cent NRI investments.

The high cost of IVF treatments abroad will definitely attract patients to Kerala, thereby, promoting medical tourism initiatives of the Government. The project will be showcased by the Tourists Resorts Kerala Ltd for Ente Keralam tourism investment meet to be held at Kochi on December 23 and 24.
