High Energy Batteries diversifying

Our Bureau

Chennai, Dec.15 High Energy Batteries, the Esvin Group company, is diversifying into the manufacture of lead-acid batteries for the automotive industry and VRLA batteries for UPS systems.

According to company officials, HEB is setting up a Rs 20-crore manufacturing facility near Tiruchi, close to its existing facility at Mathur. HEB now manufactures specialised batteries for defence and space applications. Its customers include the Airforce, Navy and the Indian Space Research Organisation.

It will now start manufacturing batteries for four-wheelers and for use in inverters. Officials said hopes to widen its customer base with the entry into the civilian market. The new facility will have a capacity to manufacture over two lakh units a year and is expected to start production by March 2009.
