Export demand props up prices at Kochi tea sale

Kochi, Dec. 19 Export demand shored up prices at the Kochi dust tea auction, especially among CTC bolder varieties. Major blenders as well as the domestic players were supportive on good liquoring CTC dust grades. Exporters were also active in the orthodox and CTC leaf grades, placing firm enquiries and orders. CTC grades found good support from interstate buyers. Arrivals of both dust and leaf were up at 14 lakh kg and 4 lakh kg.

Good general demand propped up the price of medium and plain CTC dust varieties, while popular CTC grades moved up sharply. Most orthodox grades, high grown and medium dust found good support and ended dearer. Best CTC grades fetched Rs 95-120, medium CTC was at Rs 80-95 while below medium quoted Rs 55-70. High grown BOPD fetched Rs 111, medium BOPD ranged at Rs 49-50 and secondaries were at Rs 46-47. At the leaf auction prices of high grown, medium orthodox and fannings moved up. Medium whole leaf grades remained steady. Both high priced and medium CTC grades were dearer.
