According to Mr N. Ramachandra Rao, INTUC leader, all the unions supported the “just demand” of the contract workers and the management was being “adamant” in not con ceding it. He said the CITU, the AITUC, the HMS, and the Telugu Nadu Trade Union Council all supported the stir. More than 10,000 families of contract workers were eking out a livelihood, dependent on the steel plant, and even the minimum recommended hike of Rs 1,000 was not being paid by the management, he alleged.
