`Regulate work hours for officers'

Mumbai, Dec. 19

The All India Bank Officers' Association (AIBOA) has called for regulated working hours for bank officers as they are being forced to report to work early and leave late in the night on account of the lean staffing policy thrust by bank managements after the VRS in 2001. According to Mr S. Nagarajan, Deputy General Secretary, AIBOA, said: "With the induced exit of nearly one lakh officers from banks and with nearly three times increase in volume of business since 2001, officers are shouldering heavy workload without any respite. There is no worklife balance for officers." The association, in a statement, pointed out that though technology initiatives such as core banking are supposed to make the functioning of banks effective and efficient, officers continue to work long hours without any commensurate compensation. It called upon bank officers to adhere to their weekly offs and declared holidays strictly. - Our Bureau
