Our Bureau

Pune, Dec. 19 Klaus Multiparking Systems India — a 50:50 joint venture between Klaus, a German player in mechanised car parking, and the Pune-based Automag Group — is setting up a facility for the manufacture of entire multi-parking systems.

Talking to presspersons, Mr Nitin Bhave, Managing Director, Klaus Multiparking Systems, said it would be located at Shirwal, near Pune and would be operational by end of January 2009. He said total investment of €1 million is being utilised and it was looking at manufacturing of about 5,000 units initially.

He noted that mechanised car parking was emerging as the most ideal solution to the serious problem of car parking in cities. The mechanised car parking would enable optimum usage of space, safety and security. He said the company had so far completed about 50 car parking projects till date and around 15 projects are under execution. These projects are for various office buildings, IT complexes, hotels and residential buildings. He said it had recently completed a project for UB Towers in Bangalore for 350 cars.

Projects on hand

Mr Bhave said it is also developing mechanised car parking systems in Mumbai and Nagpur, New Delhi, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. A project is under execution at the Bandra Kurla complex in Mumabi, which would have the first fully automatic parking system. He said in Pune three projects, R Mall, Sofotel Software and Hotel Ibis, were under construction. The company is also setting up mechanised parking in another location in Bangalore, which would have close to 1,400-car parking space.

Estimating numbers

He said according to industry estimates, the number of cars in India is all set to increase from the present level of about 1.5 million to 8 million by 2020. He said the company was also talking about setting up a car parking facility in Pune for 50 cars and added that it was also looking at a 400-car parking facility.
