Mr Pranab Mukherjee

New Delhi, Dec. 19 The Government will look into demands for further cut in domestic prices of petrol and diesel, the Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.

Responding to the demand by UPA Government’s key allies, including Samajwadi Party (SP) members, for further cut in prices, the Union External Affairs Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, said, “we will look into it. We will come back to the House with a reply”.

‘Not sufficient’

SP’s Mr Ramji Lal Suman, who raised the issue during zero hour, said that “prices of crude oil had fallen steeply in the international market… The recent oil price cut (petrol/diesel) is not sufficient”.

Members of the ruling UPA, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Lok Janasakti Party (LJP), joined the SP to demand a response from the Government on the oil price issue. The Left Parties and the Telugu Desam supported the demand.

As the leader of the House (Mr Pranab Mukherjee) was present in the House, he should come up with a reply, SP members demanded.

Earlier in the day, soon after the beginning of the question hour, SP members raised the oil product price issue only to be told by the Lok Sabha speaker, Mr Somnath Chatterjee, that they would be allowed to raise the matter during zero hour.
