Letters Corporate governance Recently, corporate governance has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in the US. Public outrage over unjustifiable compensation levels should impart valuable lessons to Corporate India. Increasing use of stock options, limited say of shareholders and flawed calculations of compensation committees drove home the crisis. In an emerging economy such as India, where half a million people still languish in poverty, we cannot afford to part with unprecedented salaries, not linked to meritocracy and output.
