TN to prohibit liquor sales

Chennai, Dec 23

The Tamil Nadu Government on Tuesday announced its plans to prohibit sale of liquor in the State. According to a press release from the Government, the prohibition will happen over a period in phases. To start with, it announced that Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Ltd (Tasmac) will not open any more liquor shops in the State. From January 1, 2009, even the working time of the existing outlets will be reduced by one hour, says the release. - Our Bureau
