Letters Off the hook Mr A. R. Antulay has managed to keep his job. But in the process the Congress party and its leaders have lost credibility. Keen on playing vote-bank politics they went on delaying any firm stand. The party leaders and the government represented by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister finally came out with bland statements distancing themselves from the preposterous accusations of Mr Antulay. No firm action was taken. The Prime Minister graciously said “to err is human”, thereby implying all will be forgotten. To this Mr Antulay came out saying that he was satisfied by the explanations given. But he did not have the courtesy to say “I am sorry. What I said was wrong. I apologise for the same.” Peoples’ memory is not short. They will give back when the time comes. Unless the Congress party takes a tough stand and sacks Mr Antulay immediately, it will face disastrous results at the polls. K. Venkataraman Mumbai More Stories on : Letters | Politics | Terrorism
