Power for Konkan

It is shameful that no power generation project has been set up in Konkan in the past 50 years. The effects of Enron project, which got embroiled in political controversy, can be witnessed with not only the Konkan region but whole of rural Maharashtra reeling under 12-13 hours of load shedding daily.

Thermal power projects and SEZs, proposed in the Konkan region, have been facing opposition. This will affect the local populace and particularly the youth of the region.

As the impact of global economic recession is being felt everywhere, at least now the opponents should allow power projects and SEZs to come up in the region. If not, the possibility of Konkan still groping in the darkness can not be ruled out.
