13.24% growth in Eastern Rly freight traffic

Kolkata, Dec. 29 Between April and November, Eastern Railway posted 13.24 per cent growth in originating freight traffic at 30.93 million tonnes (27.31 mt in the same period of 2007), according to Eastern Railway sources.

Coal alone accounted for 17.89 mt ( 9.43 mt). During the period under review, freight earnings amounted to Rs 1,682 crore (Rs 1,300.78 crore), thus recording a growth of 29.31 per cent, and the earnings from passenger traffic increased by 10.18 per cent to Rs 844.39 crore (Rs 766.35 crore), the sources add.
