Rice purchases on the rise

Heading for new record: Rice being ground at a flour processing unit near Kochi. Rice procurement by the Food Corporation of India and State agencies is slated to touch a new record in the ongoing 2008-09 marketing season. Total purchases for the Central Pool touched 137.81 lakh tonnes compared with 111.72 lakh tonnes during the same period last year.
