Idea Cellular enters Karnataka

Will build on Spice’s subscriber base.

Bangalore, Dec. 29 Idea Cellular Ltd said on Monday that it will build on the current 14 lakh subscriber base of Spice in Karnataka, and introduce its complete range of mobile telephony products and services for existing subscribers, and other mobile users and intenders in the State.

A press statement from the company said Idea’s logo in yellow, which symbolises strength, vibrancy and vitality, will be seen across the rural and urban landscape of Karnataka, starting Monday.

With this launch, Idea now covers over 80 per cent of the telephony potential of the country, and is the third largest private GSM player with over 36 million subscribers. Idea Cellular is part of the Aditya Birla Group and is India’s fastest growing mobile service provider.

Idea network aims to provide whisper-clear audio quality, zero call congestion and high capacity ahead of time. Idea’s 2.75G capable and 3G ready core network provides for all future technological enhancements.

Idea plans to increase its coverage to 11,200 towns and villages from the current 3,410 by March 2010.
