SSIs’ plea on power cut

Madurai, Dec. 30

The Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association has appealed for a one-day power cut a week. While welcoming the proposal announced by the Electricity Minister, Mr Arcot.N.Veeraswami, to reduce the quantum of power cut from 40 per cent to 30 per cent for HT consumers or to enable industrial units have their operations five days a week with two days holidays, the Association, in a statement here said the proposal to reduce the power cut from 20 per cent to 15 per cent for low tension consumers or to work for five days a week appeared contradicting. Instead, one-day holiday a week for the small-scale unit should be adopted and the Government should try to remove the peak hour restrictions between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., the association has pleaded. —
