Strategy Hastens Sangar to open stores in Mumbai, Delhi Phalguna Jandhyala Hyderabad, Dec. 31 Swedish luxury bed-maker Hastens Sangar AB is looking at opening a store each in Mumbai and Delhi by summer next year. “In the last couple of months after the launch of the Hyderabad store in July, we have fine-tuned our marketing strategy and are now ready for the foray into new markets across the country, the first of which would be in Delhi and Mumbai,” Mr Sanjay Verma, Country Manager, Hastens (India), told Business Line. He also said apart from being a good place to launch products, the Hyderabad market helped the company to learn consumer behaviour patterns and at the same time not bleed like in Delhi or Mumbai as the rentals here are low. Price taggingPriced between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, the beds are targeted at upper-end customers and the expansion of stores in India is part of Hastens’ strategy to focus on the Asian markets. They come in 18 different sizes and are customised to ones needs. The price includes 32.8 per cent import duty as the beds are manufactured in Hastens’ facility in Koping, Sweden. Unlike beds in India, which come without cots (bed frames), Hastens’ beds come with a bed-frame carrying patented springs. “Our prospective customers in India are those who own a Mercedes ‘S’ class or similar luxuries for whom price is not a deterrent,” he said. The company on an average invests Rs 2-4 crore a store and in India it is looking at a space of around 3,000 sq feet as the average store size. Deal with boutique hotelMr Verma said it takes three months for the beds to be delivered from the time of placing the order. “We are close to finalising a deal with a boutique hotel in Delhi for 30 beds and in talks with a bigger hotel for supplying 150 beds,” he said.
