Tourism States - Kerala ‘Visit Kerala Year 2009’ to boost tourism Our Bureau Kochi, Dec. 31 The State Government has proposed to introduce an umbrella project called “Visit Kerala Year 2009” as part of its efforts to boost tourism. Senior officials in the tourism department said that Kerala Tourism is keen to participate in trade fairs and road shows in non-key cities and also to take in new technologies such as the Internet, blogs and mobile phone marketing as part of its destination marketing strategy. This is on top of its latest initiative, Ente Naadu, organised by the State Government in association with the Tourism Department and Industries Department managed by Tourist Resorts Kerala Ltd. Kerala, the officials said, is Asia’s fastest growing destination and India’s only super brand and one of the “10 paradises of the world”. So far that reputation has propelled a healthy tourism industry. Ente Naadu initiativeIn 2007, 5.2 million foreign travellers visited the region, an increase of 20.37 per cent on 2006. The early signs for this year are good as well, with the figures from the first half of the year showing a growth of 19.23 per cent against the corresponding data from 2006.
