Dalmia to amalgamate subsidiary

Chennai, Dec. 31

Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd has informed the exchange that the High Court of Madras has sanctioned the amalgamation of Eswar Cements, a subsidiary, with itself. The court cleared the amalgamation through an order on December 8, 2008. According to Mr Puneet Dalmia, Managing Director, Dalmia Cement, the total capacity now available with Dalmia Cement is 8.5 million tonnes (mt). Dalmia Cement, like the rest of the industry, has a difficult year ahead as the demand is expected to slow down and new capacities expected to come in. Tight capital management, operational efficiencies to keep costs down would be key factors during the year. Earlier this month, Dalmia Cement commissioned a 2.25 mt greenfield cement project at Cuddappah, Andhra Pradesh. The clinker has started operations and the cement would be available from February 2009, he said. —
