It is a proactive measure undertaken by the company to enable customers to make an informed choice Our Bureau New Delhi, Dec. 31 Maruti Suzuki on Wednesday announced it would disclose fuel economy of its models at its dealerships across the country with immediate effect. This is a part of the “the voluntary disclosure of fuel economy” programme under which fuel efficiency figures are determined by tests taken at three government approved test agencies – Automotive Research Association of India, Pune, Vehicles Research and Development Establishment, Ahmednagar and International Centre of Automotive Technology, Manesar. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers at its annual convention held in September had announced a voluntary labelling programme for all member companies to make a disclosure of fuel efficiency of their vehicles by March-end. Overall leadership“It is a proactive measure undertaken by the company in customer interest. The fuel economy figures obtained in tests by premier automobile research institutions emphasise Maruti Suzuki’s overall leadership in making highly fuel efficient cars. It would enable customers to make an informed choice when purchasing a car in the market,” said Mr Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, in a statement. Test result According to the tests conducted by the Government approved certification agencies, Maruti’s compact car Alto gives a fuel economy of 18.1 km a litre, its newly launched model A-star offers a mileage of 19.6 km a litre and in diesel, the Swift hatchback and entry level sedan Dzire, both give an average of 21 km.
