World Crafts Council’s new chief

Chennai, Dec. 31

Ms Usha Krishna is to take over as the President of the World Crafts Council from January 1. According to a press release, Ms Krishna is the first Indian to head the World Crafts Council since it was founded in 1964. She was appointed the President at the council’s general assembly held in Hangzhou, China, on November 7, 2008. She takes over from Ms Celina Rodriguez of Chile. Ms Krishna will head the council for a four-year term and co-ordinate the craft activities i n five regions – Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, South America and North America. She has been an active member of the Crafts Council of India over the last 35 years and Vice-President for three terms.
