Security Industry & Economy - Terrorism Corporate houses seek CISF protection

Krishnan Our Bureau New Delhi, Dec. 31 Leading corporate houses like the Tatas, the Oberoi and Infosys have approached the Union Home Ministry for Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) cover in the wake of the Mumbai terror strikes. “Ratan Tata, the Oberoi, Infosys and Jamnagar refinery have approached me (for CISF cover),” the Home Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, told a press conference here Wednesday. He said once the CISF Bill becomes a law, many corporate and private industrial houses would seek such a security. The Home Minister had introduced the CISF Bill in Rajya Sabha in the just concluded session of Parliament but the House adjourned sine die before it was passed. The Bill provides for CISF cover to industrial establishments in the joint and private sectors as also to Indian missions abroad. Amendment BILLMr Chidambaram said the CISF (Amendment) Bill is part of the package of legal measures required to enhance security. He said a meeting of Chief Ministers would be held on January 6 to discuss internal security situation, particularly terrorism, sharing of intelligence, steps to tone up intelligence machinery and boost coastal security. On the Naxal problem, he said Rs 94.15 crore was released for security of critical infrastructure in Naxal affected areas under a new plan scheme of Home Ministry. He also said if any Naxal group wanted to hold talks with the Government, it would be ready. There could also be a meeting of Chief Ministers of Naxal-hit States on January 7, sources said.
