Airlines Air India (Domestic) sees increase in passenger traffic Our Bureau New Delhi, Dec. 31 The New Year is bringing cheer to the domestic airline industry especially Air India (Domestic). The state-owned airline, Air India (Domestic) has not only seen a steady increase in the daily number of passengers carried, but is also witnessing an increase in the number of bookings for the first week of January. December figures“On an average, the airline carried around 22,000 passengers a day during the third week of December. This increased to 23,000 daily in the following week. “For the first week of the New Year, the airline is reporting daily bookings of around 25,000 passengers,” a senior airline official told Business Line. The inclement weather conditions, however, could play spoilsport for air travellers. Airport sources and senior officials of some domestic airline indicated that several passengers were advancing their travel plans so as to ensure that the fog enveloping much of the North does not affect their New Year celebrations. When contacted, a Jet Airways spokesperson felt that a better estimate of how the airline has performed will be available by the end of first week of January. With aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices dipping by as much as 45.2 per cent in Delhi between September 1 and now, the airline industry has been taking a number of steps to woo passengers. Jet Airways had recently launched its advanced purchase fares which offer reduced rates for passengers booking in advance. More Stories on : Airlines
