Opinion - Letters
Self-reliance

This has reference to your editorial “Of despair and hope” (Business Line, January 1). It was rightly pointed out that Indian companies should not expect concessions and subsidies from the Government as a matter of course, and it is the time for them to stand on their own.

Similarly, the Government should spend more on infrastructure projects which will fuel rapid growth of the economy. Concessions and subsidies can help only for shorter time-spans and the new Government’s priority should be to create fresh avenues for capital inflows and investments. One hopes the lessons learnt in the past year will not be forgotten.
