No let-up in tea exports to Pakistan

Our Bureau

Kolkata, Jan. 1 There has been no let up in tea export to Pakistan which has been identified by India as one of the thrust countries for the purpose of tea promotion. If at all, the export is increasing.

“Our exports to Pakistan this year will be more than last year”, Mr Basudeb Banerjee, Chairman of Tea Board, told newspersons here on Thursday. “We’re already up”.

The tea exports to Pakistan, as he explained, depended a lot on the Kenyan price. If the Kenyan price was high, the demand for Indian tea in Pakistan would shoot up. The crop failure has pushed up the price of Kenyan tea this year.

Inquiries reveal that between April and September this year, tea exports to Pakistan were up by an estimated two m kgs vis-À-vis the same period of last year. Last year, the exports were 5.49 m kgs and in the year before than 14 m kgs.
