Coonoor teas fetch higher prices

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor, Jan. 5

Tea auctions for 2009 conducted by the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) have begun on a happy note with the average price rising Rs 2 a kg over the last sale of 2008 held a fortnight ago.

When the market re-opened after the Christmas-New Year vacation on Saturday, demand was good enough to absorb at high bids the 10.96 lakh kg on offer.

Consequently, as many as 41 marks of CTC teas from bought-leaf factories shot into the Rs 100-price band.

Ten marks of orthodox teas from the corporate sector remained in this category.

Fetch over Rs 100

Five CTC marks of Shanthi Supreme fetched over Rs 100 a kg – PD Rs 129, RD Rs 125, BOP Rs 104, BOPS and BP Rs 102 each.

Five marks of Vigneshwar Estate entered Rs 100 level – RD Rs 119, PD Rs 115, SFD Rs 110, BOPL and BOP Rs 100 each.

Four marks of Darmona Estate got RD Rs 132, PD Rs 124, BOPF Rs 120 and BP Rs 108.
