Gujarat to encourage setting up of mega projects

Action plan

The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation will develop new estates through the PPP model and provide land, which would remain in public domain, to industries on a “plug-and-play” basis, providing all key facilities.

The SME sector, backbone of Gujarat industry, will be prioritised with necessary support through interest subsidy, venture capital assistance, quality certification and skill development.

Ahmedabad, Jan. 5 A week before it launches its mega-buck exercise, “Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit 2009”, scheduled to be held here on January 12 and 13, the State Government on Monday announced to encourage mega projects, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the public-private partnership (PPP) model for growth and development.

Addressing a press conference here, the Minister of State for Industries Saurabh Patel said that Gujarat would encourage setting up of mega projects involving investment of more than Rs 1,000 crore and employment of more than 2,000 persons in identified sectors such as auto components, semiconductor fabrication, nano technology, ship-building and repairing, aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul, through a merit-based package of assistance.

Core infrastructure projects such as metro rail line, logistics parks, railway line, expressways, fast passenger trains, high-speed trains and such other category of projects as decided by the Government, involving a minimum investment of Rs 5,000 crore, will also be encouraged similarly through a merit-based package of assistance.

The Government will review the identified sectors from time to time, he said. In order to strengthen infrastructure, the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation will develop new estates through the PPP model and provide land, which would remain in public domain, to industries on a “plug-and-play” basis, providing all key facilities.

The SME sector, backbone of Gujarat industry, will be prioritised with necessary support through interest subsidy, venture capital assistance, quality certification and skill development. Initiatives will be taken to promote “Made in Gujarat” brands.
