BEML to set up new unit at Kinfra Park

Kochi, Jan. 5 BEML Ltd, is planning to set up a new unit at the 1,000 acres of land at the Kinfra Integrated Industrial Park, Kanjikode, Palakkad.

The new unit will manufacture defence products and parts for Railways. BEML will invest Rs 260 crore in this venture.

The foundation stone of the new unit will be laid on January 18 by the Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan. The function will be presided by the Union Defence Minister, Mr A.K. Antony.

First phase

The first phase of the factory will come up on 400 acres provided on a long-term lease by the Kinfra.

Kinfra is already in possession of the 400 acres at Sathyanathapalam in Kanjikode, Palakkad. After the completion of the first phase of the plant at least 500 people will be given employment at the plant. Later, the plant would provide direct employment for about 1,500 people, and indirect job opportunities to more than 4,000 people.

Heavy equipment such as bulldozers and earthmovers as well as heavy vehicles meant for defence use will be manufactured at the plant.
