Pre-paid cards for e-tuitions at local shops

EXTRAMARKS GETS ‘SMART’.

Bindu D. Menon

New Delhi, Jan. 5 After mobile and television recharge coupons, it is now a recharge coupon for online tuition.

Extramarks.com, an online education portal offering support after school hours to students, has introduced a ‘Smart Study Card’ for those who want e-tuitions. These cards will be available at local stationery shops or in school premises for as low as Rs 100.

“Learning and teaching are becoming more engaging through computer-aided learning. Young people are already using the Internet to access information. Extramarks Smart Study Card forms a just-in-time help to students in accessing quality study support and helps in last-minute revision for exams.

“These cards are a type of pre-paid recharge coupon that activates a study account on Extramarks, with points. For every chapter studied and each test taken, the points get spent, almost like the talk time on the cell phone,” Mr Atul Kulshrestha, Chairman, Extramarks.com, told Business Line.

Anywhere access

He said the smart cards will help students adopt the latest technology and access study support anywhere, anytime, through its self-learning modules, test centre and virtual classes.

“With the help of a smart study card, students from class VI to class XII can find answers to all their education-related queries, after school hours. Once the profile gets activated with points through a study card, students can access the study support used in Smart Learn Class, at home.”

Ask a teacher

This apart, a student can also get real-time help from teachers from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the form of ‘Ask a Teacher’ service and virtual classes where students can learn directly from teachers.

Extramarks.com followss NCERT syllabus. The company claims to have about 4.16 lakh registered users. The portal charges Rs 1,200 per year for providing expert guidance to its paid members.
