Trade & Labour Unions States - Andhra Pradesh HSL unions concerned over delay in takeover
Our Bureau Visakhapatnam, Jan. 6 The unions affiliated to different political parties and independent unions have expressed concern over the delay in takeover of the Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) here by the Union Ministry of Defence, even though the Union Government has agreed in principle to such a proposal. DelaysAt a press meet here on Tuesday, the union leaders — Mr K.M. Kumaramangalam (CITU), Mr M. Jagadeeswara Rao (BMS), Mr G. Venkataramana (Telugunadu Trade Union Council) and Ch. F. Lazarus (AITUC) — said the Union Cabinet had been postponing the decision on the crucial issue, even though the Group of Ministers headed by Mr Pranab Mukherjee had cleared the proposal for takeover of the shipyard by the Union Ministry of Defence in May, 2008. In perilThey said the capital restructuring plan for the shipyard had been pending since 1997 and HSL would be in peril, if it was not brought under the ministry immediately. They said there was conspiracy to weaken and kill public sector units such as HSL and urged the Government to expedite the process. Otherwise, the employees would be left with no choice but to take up agitation for the purpose. More Stories on : Trade & Labour Unions | Shipping/Ports | Andhra Pradesh
