Tea High volume on offer at Coonoor tea auctions P.S. Sundar Coonoor, Jan. 7 A volume of 14.67 lakh kg of teas has been catalogued for the second auction for 2009 to be conducted by Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) on Thursday and Friday. It is the highest volume of the last four weeks. This is 3.71 lakh kg more than the offer of last week. It is as much as 5.81 lakh kg more than the volume offered this time last year. Of the 14.67 lakh kg on offer, 10.09 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 4.58 lakh kg belong to the dust grades. As much as 13.84 lakh kg belong to CTC variety and only 0.83 lakh kg, orthodox variety. Orthodox share lowThe proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.38 lakh kg belong to orthodox, while 9.71 lakh kg to CTC. Among the dusts, only 0.45 lakh kg belong to orthodox while 4.13 lakh kg, CTC. Auctioneers said that prices could improve despite higher offer if the demand firms up. Last week, prices rose on an average Rs 2 a kg, thanks to firm demand.
