Airlines Industry & Economy - Industry Associations Airport ground handlers form association Our Bureau Bangalore, Jan. 7 Small and mid-sized ground handling companies operating at airports have united under a new forum – the Indian Airport Ground-handlers’ Association or IAGA. IAGA was launched in Bangalore on Wednesday initially with 30 members from across the country. It will be the new platform for the nearly 70 domestic players who are fighting a survival battle against the Centre’s ground-handling policy that favours having only 2-3 MNCs and big players, said its General Secretary, Mr Shyson Thomas. The policy, earlier planned to be in force from January 1, 2009, has now been deferred by six months. Mr Thomas said ground-handling at airports was a business of around Rs 400 crore. The policy aims to keep small and mid-sized domestic players out of airports on the ground of security. More Stories on : Airlines | Industry Associations
