Fuel price cut in the offing

New Delhi, Jan. 7

Another cut in fuel prices could be expected in the next two to three weeks. The Petroleum Minister, Mr Murli Deora, on Wednesday indicated a possible reduction in the price of petrol and diesel. He also hinted at a possible cut in cooking gas prices. “The Ministry is considering it,” he told newspersons. While not disclosing the quantum of cut on the petroleum products, Mr Deora also said that “even housewives may pay less for their fuel, as the subsidy which was being incurred on LPG has come down”. Indications are that LPG prices could be lowered by Rs 20-25 a cylinder, while the cut in auto fuels may be higher than that announced last month. The Government had in December last year, after a sustained fall in global crude oil prices cut petrol and diesel, while leaving the cooking gas prices untouched.
