Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Jan. 8 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said that while the State Government is ready to talk to lorry owners and concede their genuine demands, it will not tolerate any unreasonable and unwanted strikes.

“The State Government is very firm on the issue and the lorry owners cannot behave as they like,” he said.

At a review meeting here on Thursday, he asked the transport, police and all the other concerned officials to be very firm in dealing with the strike.

The Chief Minister also wanted strict enforcement of ESMA already invoked against the strike. Dr Reddy also asked the officials to make alternative arrangements if the strike affected normal life.

Salary payment

At another meeting, it was also decided to pay the salaries and pensions of municipal employees other than GHMC, GVMC and VMC through treasuries on par with Panchayat Raj employees with effect from April 1 this year.

Dr Reddy said that the electrical charges of the municipalities could be paid from the non-Plan grants and the total amount required for salaries and pensions of the municipal employees other than GHMC, GVMC and VMC was around to Rs 331.47 crore.
