Shipping/Ports States - Gujarat Shell brings spot LNG cargo at Hazira Pratim Ranjan Bose Kolkata, Jan. 8 Shell brought a spot LNG cargo at Hazira terminal today at a time when the shadow of an acute energy crisis was looming large on Gujarat and other parts of the country due to near complete disruption of natural gas supplies by ONGC and GAIL over and above the stoppage in supply of liquid fuels. The problem has further aggravated as Petronet LNG has gone for a scheduled week long shut down till January 11. Needless to say therefore that Shell has witnessed a strong demand for its cargo sold in re-gassified form at $ 11.75 per million metric British thermal unit (mmBtu). This was a complete reversal of the trend for last three months when weak demand forced the company to stop the terminal operations. In the wake of complete stoppage of nearly 4 million standard cubic metre a day natural gas supply from GAIL to different agencies in Gujarat since January 7 due to ongoing strike by PSU oil officers, the State-run GSPC today has taken the lead to meet part of the demand by spot LNG. While oil officers strike did not hit daily life, industrial activity to some extent was affected. More Stories on : Shipping/Ports | Petroleum | Gujarat
