Airlines States - West Bengal Kolkata flight operations unlikely to be hit by oil strike Our Bureau Kolkata, Jan. 8 Flights at the Kolkata Airport will not be affected at least for the next 10 days on account of the indefinite strike called by officers of public sector oil companies as there is enough reserve of aviation turbine fuel at the airport, oil industry sources said. The sources added that uninterrupted refuelling service at all airports including Kolkata would be maintained by deploying senior oil company officials. “All oil suppliers at the airport are working as per their contingency plan and there has not been any disruption of flights on account of the strike,” the Kolkata Airport Director, Mr V.K. Monga, said. Hindusthan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, the only public sector oil company remaining outside the purview of the strike, has also assured regular supply of aviation turbine fuel to its clients, a private airline official said. There was no abnormal delay in flights at the Kolkata airport on the second day of the strike because of slow refuelling. “Some flights were delayed only by 5-15 minutes for lack of staff and late arrival of the fuel bowser (fuel tanker used to deliver fuel to the aircraft),” an Air India spokesperson said. Air India flights to Port Blair, Guwahati, Agartala, and Hyderabad, among other places, were slightly delayed. Most private airlines, however, did not report of any considerable delays.
